According to the source, the rescue unfolded today (Monday) in the evening when troops en route to Anka, having successfully recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along the Gurusu–Anka Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, spotted an abandoned Golf vehicle with its doors open.
Recognizing the signs of a fresh abduction, troops deployed at Combat Team 6 Headquarters were immediately mobilized. By leveraging live CCTV footage, security operatives tracked the realtime incident and accurately established the fleeing perpetrators' trajectory.
Deploying decisive fire and movement tactics, the troops pursued the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes. Efforts are currently underway to reunite the rescued victims with their families.
In a related success on the same day, vigilant troops stationed at Forward Operating Base Gwashi responded to intelligence regarding a terrorist-planted IED along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road. The area was swiftly cordoned off before the 1 Brigade Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team safely detonated the device, averting a major disaster.
Similarly, troops in Tsafe Local Government Area successfully thwarted another abduction attempt after engaging terrorists around Magazu Village.
