OPFY Troops Survive Ambush, Kill Terrorists in Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully neutralized two terrorists and recovered weapons and motorcycles during a fierce engagement in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of 28 August 2026 regarding the movement of terrorists conveying hundreds of rustled cattle through the Maikujera general area, prompting troops of Sector 2 to act swiftly.

Danja said, while advancing to intercept the criminals, the troops encountered an ambush staged by the terrorists, but responded decisively with superior firepower to force the remaining elements to flee into surrounding bushes.

Subsequent exploitation of the engagement area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and three motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing suspects. While the rustled cattle dispersed during the firefight, joint efforts with local vigilantes are currently ongoing to locate and recover the livestock.

The Media Information officer of the Operation Fansan Yamma added that the general area remains calm and stable as troops continue domination patrols and maintain high vigilance. The command reassures the public of its resolute commitment to sustaining operational momentum against criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property across the joint operations area.
